Hunting for New Job

It has been nearly 5 months since I got a new job in one of the leading logistics startups. After assessing my 5months I am quite happy with my job role and the environment of my team. I am not writing about some magical formula or 30 days and Job guarantee scheme but my simple opinion and analysis on how I got the job.

I have been trying to switch in a fast paced environment for nearly 5months before I landed this job. Yes 5months and I remember I had started the job hunt by saying how hard it could be to switch the job. But trust me it was very hard to just keep the hope and try doing the same thing over and over again everyday. There are some insights I got after going through this gruesome task every day and will like to share:

Like most of us I also wasted nearly 3 months by visiting the multinational companies website and applying for jobs there. And just waiting for a reply!! I remember roughly that I had applied for more than 150 plus companies and 5 to 10 companies only felt it necessary to give a reply even if it was a rejection mail. I really felt useless after some time and thought I really do not have any skills that these companies need as they are not willing to reply also. My first insight was do not apply for such companies at least through their website because apparently they do not have time to look at their own website.

Just ask: There will be many who will tell you to connect with people then find some interest and then gently ask for opening at the firm. Yes this is important to make connections and have a good network but if you are in a miserable situation and just want to switch, just connect with people and ask for job openings. You may be surprised by the replies you get!! Remember when you are connecting with anyone LinkedIn ask you to write 150 characters to describe yourself use it very carefully it is a game changer trust me!

Don't be Desperate: It is very important to keep connecting and then applying for jobs. There will be 95% time when you will feel that what the heck am I doing but be consistent. Because when you are applying consistently the power of compounding is playing its role. Always remember any activity that you can do consistently, it will help you develop intuition which will in turn help you to put the brain in autonomous mode.

Time Frame: For some the switch will be immediate but for many we have to go through the process from start to end without any shortcuts. It will feel like is it adding any value but if you want to have a change and feel that you have stagnated the learning curve then going through the process is the best way to move ahead. How much time should we keep in mind while switching? In my opinion, consider 3 to 5 months and keep trying consistently!!

There is one more insight which I would like to share in my upcoming post. Till then Happy learning!!
